When you are working in the hot sun, it doesn’t take long before it can take its toll.
Your energy levels plummet. Your legs feel like lead, and you just want to go lay down for a nap…
Recently we had a crew out at the farm building a cob (earthen) oven. Temperatures were dangerously hot – soaring above +30 celsius (+86 F).
This simple, homemade electrolyte replacement drink was created out of necessity that day.
One of the workshop participants started to feel ill from the heat. I whipped up this drink and her recovery was darn close to miraculous. After drinking some of this elixir myself, I experienced the same ‘bounce back’ (as did other workshop participants).
When something works that well, you know it’s time to share
Be forewarned that I put this together without alot of measuring etc (that’s just not my style).
Don’t worry if you have to tweak or adjust based on your taste. Also, when creating the second and third rounds of this drink, I added blueberries for flavour and ginger. The ginger because, according to traditional chinese medicine (TCM) it is essential to good summertime health. Some people also like to add a bit of honey to these drinks, and that’s fine too.
By the way, this is a fantastic alternative to sports drinks like Gatorade if you still drink them. Commercial sports and electrolyte replacement drinks are loaded with bizarre ingredients, artificial sweeteners and food colouring.
Save your money. You can whip this up in minutes and you’ll know exactly what you are putting in your body.
Additional fruit and roots such as ginger can be added for flavour.
I should also say that I added a packet of this Natural Calm Magnesium powder to the first couple of jars of this I made. You can make this drink with or without it though. The Natural Calm packets would be ok to use in place of, or in addition to, the Concentrace drops if you can’t find one or the other.
