Homesteading: Starting Where You Are With What You Have

Category
Farm & Garden

We are a Mama, Papa and two little ones tending goats, chickens, ducks (including the famous Hettie Quackers), topbar hives of honey bees and an expanding fruit, flower, herb and vegetable garden.

We were looking for land. For years…. and then the bottom fell out of the economy and we found ourselves stuck on a regular city lot. We watched an amazing film called The Power of Community, and a couple facts got us all fired up and excited to see what we could do with our super-small urban farmette. We went right out and got goats and ducks and eventually bees. After some amount of moving around we settled in our current spot in April 2010. Our infrastructure is now well underway and we have learned an incredible amount right on our city lot.

In this talk we will inspire you to get started with what you have, rather than pining for that someday place where you will finally live your dream. We will give you anecdotal and practical information to get you started reclaiming your birthrite of connected sustainability, community connection and family harmony.
